Kawasaki Publicly Showcased Their Hydrogen Engine Motorcycle
Kawasaki publicly showcased their first ICE motorcycle running on Hydrogen. At the Suzuka Circuit the hydrogen capable engine was tested on a test vehicle based on the Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX.
HySE also know as Hydrogen Small mobility & Engine technology is an association focused on hydrogen technology and Kawasaki is a member of HySE. The research is based on hydrogen engines, hydrogen filling systems and fuel supply as well for small mobility hydrogen vehicles like motorcycles.
The research was started in 2023 and the first set of tests were conducted earlier this year with the public demonstration actioned on 22nd July 2024. We saw a few glimpses of the prototype model by the end of 2023 and it looks very similar to the research test model.
The test model has a modified version of the same 999cc inline-four supercharged engine from the Kawasaki Ninja H2. While visually one can easily make out that the test motorcycle is based on the H2 SX, the touring version of the H2.
Power and torque figure are not shared, neither are the numbers for the weight that the motorcycle carries for the tanks but the rear section makes a huge impact in the design terms. The rear unit seems to be carrying the Hydrogen tanks while the filling nozzle is showcased at the tail itself.
Hydrogen powered engines have the nature of emitting water fumes and same could be experienced on this new hydrogen test motorcycle. Although the research is in its initial stages, do you think Hydrogen powered motorcycle can be sustainable and be the future?
