India Kawasaki Motor (IKM) plans to open its third exclusive stand alone showroom in Chennai in the coming weeks. Expanding its base across the nation, the new showroom will extend Kawasaki’s footprint to the southern region, while the dealership in Delhi caters to the demand in the northern region and the Pune-based showroom caters to the demand in the west. These Kawasaki only showrooms sell high-end superbikes which are brought in via the CBU route. The Bajaj owned KTM showrooms only retail CKD bikes of Kawasaki.
Kawasaki has been very aggressive in bringing its products to the country and launched its range of high end superbikes which include the world’s fastest accelerating bike the Ninja ZX-14R as well as other high performance bikes including the ZX-10R, Ninja 1000, Z1000 and the Z800 models. Kawasaki India’s next major launch will be the Z250 street-fighter motorcycle and the company has already commenced the testing process in the country. The bike will be Kawasaki’s re-entry into the very populated 250cc segment. The Z250 will be powered by a 249cc twin-cylinder engine that produces 32 PS of power at 11,000 RPM and is paired to a 6-speed transmission. The Z250 will be brought in via the CKD route in the country and is expected to be priced near the Rs. 3 lakh mark. Enthusiasts are also waiting for the single-cylinder 250 twins that will couple the Kawasaki DNA with a competitive price tag.
