As Kawasaki dealers clear stock, they are offering BS-III motorcycles at a substantial discount.
Kawasaki has been in the news lately but for all the wrong reasons, from the SNK dealership issue to no longer being sold and serviced via KTM showrooms, the Japanese brand has been lagging in India. While most bike manufacturers have aggressively shifted to BS-IV emission norms, including the two companies with which Kawasaki operates in the same premise (Bajaj Auto’s Akurdi plant), the Green brand has been late to update its bikes to BS-IV.
Due to this delay and the deadline (1st April) of shifting to BS-IV emission norms fast approaching, Kawasaki dealers are offering heavy discounts on existing stock of BS-III bikes, resulting in the Z250 being offered for Rs. 57,000/- less, making it the cheapest twin-cylinder bike in India, at Rs. 2.95 lakhs (on-road). Being over-priced and under-powered, the Z250 managed to sell just 22 units in the last six months and it is Kawasaki’s entry-level bike for India.
The discount on the middle-weight Kawasaki ER-6n is more substantial at Rs. 1 lakh, making the on-road price in Mumbai (pre-octroi) to Rs. 4.45 lakhs (the Ninja 300 costs almost the same). For this price, the ER-6n offers even more bang for the buck with its refined 650cc, parallel-twin engine. The only chink in the ER-6n’s armour is the lack of ABS.
The ER-6n is the most value for money performance bike in India (after the KTM 390s of course) and was given a price reduction of Rs. 27,000/- only last year. With 72 PS and 64 Nm, it has ample performance for those upgrading from a single-cylinder machine. Kawasaki has replaced the ER-6n with the Z650 globally.
