June 2020 car sales figures are here. There is a good reassurance of the fact that auto sector is reviving slowly. However, there is still a long way to go as sales are down by 47.2 percent compared to the sam period last year.
The positions went all haywire as the market reopened in May. The disruption in production and supply chain issues completely changed the game. However, in June, the blocks have started falling in the right places.
Maruti Alto made a big jump from 8th position to the top with 7298 units but 61 percent fall in YoY sales. While Hyundai Creta dropped down to the second position, it has sold more than double the units compared to May 2020 at 7207 and is the least affected car in the list with 14 percent YoY degrowth.
Kia Seltos takes the third spot with 7114 units, very close to the Creta. Maruti Wagon R witnesses 32 percent degrowth with 6972 units. Meanwhile, one of the top selling cars Maruti Dzire is in the 5th position for June with 5834 units and 61 percent fall in YoY sales.
Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Baleno are the worst hit cars with 75 percent, 71 percent and 69 percent fall in sales respectively.
Maruti Suzuki lost a considerable market share of 6.2 percent in June 2020. However, Tata Motors was the best performing brand with least affected YoY sales and market share growth of 3.7 percent.
As we are inching towards the festive season in India, the sales are expected to grow further with strong revival.
