July 2020 hatchback sales saw the numbers return thick and fast, as the situation has somewhat stabilised and as customers are preferring private transport to keep themselves safe.
The Maruti Alto leads the mini hatchback segment and was also the overall best-selling car in July 2020, witnessing a solid 18 percent growth with 13,654 units sold.
Next up the list is another Maruti, the S-Presso, that saw 3604 move out of the showroom, followed by the Renault Kwid and Datsun redi-GO. The former saw 3007 units get sold while the latter saw 600 units get retailed
Traditionally Maruti’s forte, the compact hatchback segment has witnessed slight changes when compared to the month of June. July 2020 hatchback sales in this segment was once again led by the Wagon R, with 13,515 units sold.
Swift came to the second position, while last month’s runner-up, the Celerio, went down to claim the fifth spot with 4799 units sold. However, it is the Grand i10 NIOS that had the biggest growth (65 percent) in the segment with 8368 units sold.
Another big hitter was the Maruti Ignis which saw 2421 units reach customers with a 55 percent growth year-on-year (y-o-y) and the Tata Tiago which came in fourth was the only other car that posted positive growth, with sales of 5337 units.
Baleno leads the premium hatchback segment once again, but this time there was 10 percent increase in sales, the car selling 11,575 times over and over.
The Tata Altroz (3636) was pushed to the third spot by the Elite i20 that saw 6344 units get sold. Also, the Glanza came on top of the Polo to bag the fourth position, but both cars saw close to 30 percent de-growth with the Freestyle rounding up the segment, selling in three digits (464 units) once again.
