Despite there being a pandemic, Maruti Suzuki models crowded the top 10 spots in the sales list.
Car sales figures for July 2020 have been released and it is the Maruti Alto which is perched on top of the sales list which sees six other Maruti Suzuki cars occupy a spot in the top 10.
Let us take a closer look at how things stand. Next to the Alto, in second place, is the Wagon R, closely followed by the Baleno. While the latter saw a 10 percent jump in sales, the former saw sales drop by 10 percent.
It was the Creta that saw a massive jump in sales compared to last year and despite the pandemic, 11,549 units of the midsize SUV got sold to customers, which is a 75 percent jump as in July last year, only 6585 units were sold.
Surprisingly the Swift and the Dzire posted losses to the tune of 20 percent and 30 percent, respectively and neither the Ertiga and Eeco that followed them in the standings do better than June last year. They saw sales drop by 8 percent and 13 percent, respectively.
Rounding up the top 10 is the Hyundai Grand i10 and Kia Seltos with the latter reaching 8270 customers. Outside the top 10, only the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata’s Tiago and Nexon, Mahindra Scorpio and the Renault Kwid posted positive growth in July 2020 sales.
The biggest loser in the July 2020 car sales list is the Honda Amaze. The small sedan lost 56 percent of its sales and only saw 2587 units get shifted from showrooms. Strong-selling models like the Toyota Innova Crysta and the Hyundai Venue too saw huge de-growth to the tune of -40 percent and -30 percent.
With the government further relaxing restrictions, the industry is expected to get back to where it was last year by the festive season. But do not expect growth levels to be much higher.
