Only 4 cars out of top 25 have a positive YoY figure in July 2019.
For the month of July 2019, Maruti Suzuki has yet again bagged the first 5 positions to come on top of the list. However, for this month, the new Wagon R is the first one on the list with a growth of 5%. It is also the only Maruti in the first 5 names with a positive year on year (YoY) growth. Second in line, the Dzire has plummeted 50%, Swift is close at the third position with a 37% decline. What’s bizarre is that the Alto, last month’s topper has nosedived to the 4th position with a decline of 50%. The 5th Maruti in line, with a 42% tumble and 10,482 units in July 2019 sales is the Baleno. The popular hatchback now has a Toyota-badged alternative called the Glanza.
July 2019 has been Maruti’s month for 3 more reasons. First, the Ertiga MPV has climbed 3 steps to come at the 8th position with a commendable 94% growth. 2nd, the Ciaz has arrived on the list. Even though the C-segment sedan is at the 2nd last position, it sold 2397 units in July 2019 as compared to the handful 48 units it raked in last year. It enters the list with a 4894% YoY growth. While the 3rd reason puts the condition of the entire automobile industry into perspective. Out of the 8 OEMs mentioned on the list, Maruti Suzuki is the only company with some positive sales figures. Ciaz, Ertiga, Eeco and WagonR are the only 4 vehicles with positive YoY growth.
Hyundai enters the list with its newest compact SUV, the Venue, at the 7th position after selling 9585 units. It’s noteworthy that its arch rival, the Vitara Brezza is far down at the 13th position after selling 5302 units. The Brezza was just 838 units ahead of the Mahindra XUV300. Also, the Brezza sold 1283 units lesser than the Creta. The 3rd company on the list is Honda at number 11 with its compact sedan, the Amaze. The Grand i10 is out of the top 10 list and finds a spot at the 14th position. The segment itself is falling down and is visible in the Tiago’s performance as well. Only 1 Ford and 1 Renault model make into the top 25 selling cars.
