Maruti domination continues with the top six places occupied by its cars.
It’s been a decent month for the companies when you take a look at the July 2018 sales numbers. Even though some companies have experienced a negative month on month growth, the positive growth for the others is far better. The number one rank is retained by the Maruti Dzire which has seen a growth of 5 percent and sold 25,647 units in the month of July. The new model continues to impress with its styling and interiors. Maruti’s entry-level Alto model appears in the second spot with a considerable growth of 29 percent.
The third spot is again a Maruti model. This is the hatchback version of the Dzire, the Swift which sold 19,993 units and is way ahead of its competitors. The Maruti Baleno premium hatchback sits in the fourth position but its sales reduced by 1 percent from the 17,850 units it sold in June. The fifth and sixth positions are occupied by the Maruti Wagon R and Vitara Brezza models respectively.
Seventh position finally sees a different manufacturer making it to the top 25 selling cars in July 2018 list. This is the Hyundai Elite i20 which managed to find 10,822 homes. It’s younger brother, the Hyundai Grand i10 on the other hand managed to sell 4 percent more cars at 10,775 units. The ninth spot is again a Hyundai model, the Creta. This compact SUV has managed to feature in the top ten list since the year 2015 proving how strong as a product it is. However, it sold 6 percent less units in July.
A Honda model finally makes an appearance in the tenth spot in the form of the Amaze. The Amaze is seeing a good growth in sales after the launch of the new generation. The Omni, which occupies the eleventh position is again a Maruti model. Surprisingly, the Omni recorded a 25 percent increase in its sales even after failing a crash test. The Maruti Eeco in the thirteenth position recorded the highest sales increase of 35 percent while it too failed the same crash test as the Omni.
Sandwiched between the Maruti Omni and the Eeco is the Toyota Innova Crysta. It sits in the fifteenth position and is the company’s only model to make it to this list. The sales of the MPV increased by 3 percent. The reliability and comfort of the Innova are still hard to beat. The Honda City makes an entry into this list in the twenty-fifth position. Even though its sales reduced by 4 percent, it still managed to displace the Hyundai Verna. Other cars like the soon to be discontinued Hyundai Eon and the Mahindra Bolero are still managing to provide decent sales for their respective companies.
Affordable offerings from Volkswagen like the Vento, Polo and Ameo models are experiencing poor sales due to rising competition. The Toyota Prius which is an electric hybrid isn’t able to bank on its eco-friendly nature either. In the upcoming festive season, lots of new cars are expected and it’ll then be interesting to see which ones turn out to be buyers’ favourites.
