Jaguar Land Rover To Use BMW’s Petrol & Diesel Engines

BMW X4 Review Test Drive

JLR and BMW have agreed to collaborate for petrol, diesel and hybridised drivetrains.

JLR will shift focus on electric powertrains

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and BMW have shared a long history together ever since BMW first bought JLR from Ford in 1994. Also, quite recently the two companies came together to work on electric powertrains. Now, both automobile giants have decided to collaborate and produce petrol and diesel engines. Reportedly, BMW is going to supply its 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder engines to JLR.

Though there is no official statement from either of the two companies, the real question is, how is this deal going to benefit them both? Apparently, for BMW, this deal safeguards existing research, development investments and production of these engines by adding volume. When it comes to JLR, they can shift their focus to electric powertrains rather than invest time and money on developing petrol and diesel engines. They can now use BMW engines which have already been approved by regulatory authorities in major global markets in regards to emission norms.

This deal between JLR and BMW seems like a smart move in terms of business. Both companies can now focus on what lies ahead in the automobile industry i.e., electric powertrains. It is only a matter of time before we see the results of this extended alliance between the two companies.
