Jeep has unveiled the Grand Cherokee L, a 2021 model year, opulent, 3-row variant of its popular SUV.
Rather than just taking the Grand Cherokee, increasing its length and adding a third row of seats, the carmaker has done a bit more.
It is clear that the car’s exterior design, more specifically the front end, has been inspired by the firm’s Grand Wagoneer concept. The headlights are slim and flank the 7-slat grille, while there is a large air dam below.
Look from the side and the extra length added to the car is very visible. In all, the car is 5204 mm long with a wheelbase of 3091 mm. At the back, there are slim LED tail lamps and twin exhaust outlets.
Similarly, the interior of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L is also different than the Grand Cherokee 5-seater. Now, the dashboard is all new and houses either an 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreen based on the trim chosen.
The car gets FCA’s latest UConnect 5 infotainment system, while there is also a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster that is configurable. Of course, there is an additional row of seats, while different upholstery is on offer as well.
Boot space is 484 litres will all 3 rows up and it increases to such an extent with the second and third rows folded down that one can quite possibly move all the contents of his/her house if needed.
To be available in 4 variants, the SUV comes with features such as manually-adjustable leather-wrapped steering wheel, 6-speaker audio system and 8.4-inch infotainment display as standard, while the top-spec model gets cooled front- and second-row seats, memory and massage front seats, a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, among others.
Two engine options – a 3.6-litre V6 (290 HP and 348 Nm) and a 5.7-litre Hemi V8 (357 HP and 528 Nm) – are on offer and both come mated to an 8-speed auto gearbox. Two-wheel-drive is standard while 4-wheel-drive can be optioned.
Being a Jeep, the car comes with off-road settings that increase the ride height so that one does not get stuck somewhere remote in their luxury SUV and there is also an Aero mode which drops the ride height by 20 mm.
Needless to say, the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L comes with numerous safety features as standard, while Active Driving Assist tech is also available.
Prices for the SUV have yet to be announced, but suffice it to say, it will cost more than its 5-seater counterpart, meaning, it will not be cheap.
