The upcoming small SUV (under 4 metres) from Jeep will make its global debut this year
Jeep is known to be developing a new entry-level small SUV for quite some time now. As it turns out, the crossover will be ready for its global debut by the end of this year.
To be positioned below the Renegade in the company’s model line-up, the small SUV will go on sale in international markets next year. It should also be revealed and launched in India in 2023.
It was in January last year when Jeep’s decision to enter the India’s hotly contested compact SUV segment came to light. The car was being “actively developed”, the American brand confirmed.
To be based on Stellantis’ Common Modular Platform (CMP), the same architecture used by the India-spec Citroen C3, the small crossover from Jeep will carry the brand’s well-known design language.
While it might not be the most affordable model in the crowded segment, it should come with solid build, a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, manual and automatic transmission options, and there will be both front- and all-wheel drive versions.
Since the CMP does not support all-wheel drive, it is likely that the small SUV from Jeep will come with an electrified rear axle, while the front wheels will be powered by a petrol engine.
Internally called the “Junior”, the car will also be sold in pure-electric form in various markets. The electric Jeep compact SUV is expected to debut in 2024.
