Jeep Renegade Confirmed For India, Launch In 2017

The Renegade is Jeep’s most affordable offering and was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show competing against the Renault Duster, Maruti S-Cross and the likes.

Fiat will have to heavily localise the India spec Renegade to keep the prices low

Jeep’s all-new and smallest offering the ‘Renegade’ was unveiled earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show that not only looks like an old school offering (in terms of visual appeal) from the company, but is also the American automaker’s most affordable model globally. Competing in the B-segment compact SUV space globally, the 2015 Jeep Renegade was scrapped for an India launch along with its Fiat badged sibling 500X initially. However, the company started considering otherwise after receiving customer feedback and reports on the interweb now suggest that the automaker has confirmed an Indian launch for the Renegade in 2017.

Based on the new Small Wide Platform developed by Fiat and Chrysler, the 2015 Renegade gets the authentic Jeep styling with the distinctive grille and circular headlights, while the side panels also see minimum curves and boxy arches in favour of an utilitarian appeal. In addition, the compact SUV comes with black body cladding, pronounced wheel arches and squared-off tail lights as part of the deal. On the inside, the Renegade maintains the utilitarian look, but gets a multi-function steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control and much more among other creature comforts.

Measuring at 4.25 metres in length, the Jeep Renegade is not small and will be competig against the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio, the upcoming Maruti S-Cross and the likes in the segment. Internationally, the Renegade is offered with a range of engine options and it would be too early to comment on the engines that will power the Indian version. Expected to carry a price tag of around Rs. 10 lakhs (ex-showroom), the company will have to heavily localize the content on the India spec Renegade in order to keep prices competitive. After a hiatus, Jeep will be making its Indian debut next year wih Wrangler and Cherokee models.
