Having a more affordable product below the Compass will help sales grow

The compact SUV segment is not one to be sniffed at and Jeep India knows that well, which is why it plans to enter the segment as well.

There are plentiful products that compete in the segment that is set to gain one more rival pretty soon with the arrival of the Renault Kiger.

However, too many products in the sub-4-metre SUV space do not seem to dampen segment sales. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Jeep India, known thus far to be a premium player, wants to launch its own compact SUV.

President and Managing Director, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India, Partha Datta, has explicitly stated that the Jeep India compact SUV is being actively developed and is part of the roadmap for the product onslaught that the firm has planned.

He would not go into more details, but did reveal that Jeep is working on fine-tuning the product architecture and feature content.

At the moment, the carmaker is focused on launching the 2021 Jeep Compass facelift, while development of the 7-seater Compass is also underway.

While no more details about the compact SUV are known, it is likely that the car will carry the brand’s design language and might come as a petrol-only model.

Knowing Jeep, the car is unlikely to be the most affordable in its segment, but should be feature-rich and boast of a sturdy build quality.

Looks like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata, among others, would need to brace for impact when the car gets launched in approximately 2 years from now.
