It’s the month of February and again an adrenaline and fun packed 2012 season of Formula 1, the highest level of track motorsport is coming closer and closer. It’s time for the F1 teams to unveil their packages and livery but this time we have a surprise. This time in such an event, the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 was unveiled to the media. The Jeep Grand Cherokee is by far one of the best-in-class handling and most powerful Jeeps ever produced by Jeep. And to add to the surprise, the Jeep Grand Cherokee was painted in Ferrari livery. You might be wondering what on earth a Jeep is doing with a Ferrari livery!
Well, 2 such special Jeep Grand Cherokees were custom built and handed over to the two Ferrari drivers; Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa on the event by Beth Paretta, Director of Marketing and Operations – SRT Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group LLC. Now we get the connection that Ferrari is owned by Fiat and again Fiat has also recently become a major stakeholder in Chrysler Group which is a possible explanation behind the showcase. The specially prepared Jeep Grand Cherokees features exclusive SRT8 design with classic Ferrari styling touches and Rosso Corsa signature colour. They were handed over to the drivers at the Fiorano Circuit in Maranello, Italy.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 is powered by an all new 6.4 litre HEMI V8 engine that produces 468 BHP of power and 624 Nm of torque with a top speed of 160 mph. It can hit the 0-60 mph mark in just 5 seconds and features Fuel Saver Technology, a technology that switches off four of the
eight cylinders when full power is not required to ensure increased fuel economy. These custom Grand Cherokees are built on a special high performance platform of the upcoming Jeep SUV due to arrive in Europe sometime soon.
