Kia Seltos clocks sales of 15,000 units, regaining the top position.
The sales have gone up for the mid-size SUV segment if we compare by the number of units sold. Cumulatively 34,356 units were sold in January 2020 as compared to 23,934 units in December 2019. In January 2020, only the Mahindra Scorpio registered positive growth in terms of sales.
Topping the sales chart is the Kia Seltos. It sold 15,000 units, more than 3 times than what it sold in December 2019. The Seltos regained the top spot by outselling the Hyundai Creta. The Creta which made its way back to the top in December 2019, has slipped to the 2nd position. Hyundai sold 6900 units of Creta, with a -33% YoY growth.
The Mahindra Scorpio has retained the third spot for quite some months now. The Scorpio sold 5316 units, which is a 3% increase in YoY growth and also almost 2000 units more than what it sold in December 2019. The MG Hector’s sales have increased by 110 units if compared to December 2019. The Mahindra XUV500 has jumped to the 5th position selling 1455 units, 45% fewer units when compared to last January. The Tata Harrier stands at 6th position selling 719 units. Sales for the Harrier have been decreasing over the months, but, hopefully, sales may increase now as the updated version was introduced with some premium features.
The Renault Duster and the Nissan Kicks’ sales have dropped. While the Duster sold 756 units in December 2019, the Kicks sold 501 units. The Renault Captur, Nissan Terrano and the Tata Safari failed to sell even a single unit.
Coming to the premium SUV segment, the sales have dropped significantly. The Toyota Fortuner has topped the list with 228 unit sales. The Fortuner sold less than half the units than what it sold in December 2019. The Skoda Kodiaq has jumped to the second position selling 189 units, a 32% rise in YoY growth. The Ford Endeavour sold just 167 units, whereas, it had sold 267 units in December 2019. The Volkswagen Tiguan which stood at the 2nd position in December 2019 with 324 units, has sold just 86 units in January 2020. Cumulatively, the figure stands at half than the previous month which was 1683 units.
