The upcoming Jaguar XE sedan has been spotted at ARAI in Pune undergoing homologation procedures. The vehicle will be launched most likely at the 2016 Auto Expo.
The Jaguar XE was unveiled earlier this year and it is also the first ever Jaguar vehicle to be produced at the Jaguar Land Rover plant in Solihull, UK. The XE has gone on sale in overseas markets while the British automaker made it clear that it won’t be launched in India any time before 2016. Jaguar India had imported one unit of the XE for R&D purposes a couple of months back and now the sedan has been spotted at ARAI in Pune.
It is very likely that the vehicle is undergoing homologation procedures at the institute. The 2016 Auto Expo is just around the corner and it is possible that the luxury sedan will be launched at the Expo. The XE features very youthful and sporty styling and it boasts of better driving characteristics too as compared to its siblings. The XE is going to be Jaguar’s cheapest offering in the Indian market and it will be slotted below the XF.
On the mechanical front, the 2016 Jaguar XE is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder Ingenium diesel engine that produces 160 HP of power and 380 Nm of torque or 178 HP of power and 430 Nm of torque. The XE will also get a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine offered in two states of tune – 197 HP and 280 Nm or 237 HP and 340 Nm. The Jaguar XE will also get a sportier 3.0-litre V6 supercharged petrol motor belting out 335 HP of power and 450 Nm of torque.
Jaguar will locally assemble the XE in India and all its rivals too come via the CKD route. The sportier version of this sedan might be brought in via the CBU route as such models sell in limited numbers. The XE will be competing with the Mercedes C-Class, BMW 3-Series, Audi A4 and Volvo S60. Prices are expected to begin from Rs. 35 lakhs (ex-showroom) going all the way to Rs. 52 lakhs for the range topping 3.0-litre V6 trim.
