Ahead of the official unveil on 8th September in London; Jaguar is dropping details on its entry-level XE sedan that will rival the likes of the BMW 3-Series, Mercedes C-Class and Audi A4 in the segment. Jaguar promised that the XE sedan will become the benchmark of ride as well as handling, and it turns out that the sedan will also be the most fuel efficient in the segment, courtesy of the new platform and light weight monocoque aluminium chassis that are set to debut on the XE.
The Jaguar XE uses the new modular vehicle architecture and is the only car in its class to use an aluminium-intensive monocoque chassis that comprises of 75 percent of light weight aluminium body structure. Courtesy of the light weight aluminium body, the XE promises benchmark levels of ride and handling as well as best in class fuel efficiency. Jaguar states that the fuel consumption on the NEDC combined cycle is over 75 mpg (26.5 km/l), while CO2 emissions have been measured to be less than 100 g/km.
The Jaguar XE’s body uses 75 percent of aluminium in construction which makes it extremely light weight, while also being massively strong with exceptional levels of torsional rigidity. The company says the XE’s body engineering is born out of Jaguar’s fifth-generation bonded and riveted aluminium technology. The XE will also incorporate highly advanced suspension systems that will help deliver superior levels of ride quality, handling and steering. Moreover, the all aluminium body structure exceeds all global safety standards and does not compromise on vehicle design and refinement.
The Jaguar XE entry-level sedan will also be the first car to feature the new high strength aluminium alloy grade called ‘RC 5754’, which is made out of high levels of recycled aluminium. Jaguar aims of utilising 75 percent of recycled materials in its vehicles by 2020. The new Jaguar XE will be powered by the 2.0-litre turbo diesel Ingenium engine that is expected to offer such impressive fuel economy.
