Competition in the luxury segment is getting intense day by day with both Mercedes and BMW going aggressive with launches. Audi on the other hand is concentrating more on niche segment performance cars as the brand with the four rings has already launched the latest iterations of its luxury cars (except the A8L whose facelift also pales in comparison to the new Mercedes S-Class). Jaguar is slowly coming down the ladder, launching more affordable variants of its cars. It’s no secret that Jaguar is planning to launch more affordable cars which will cater to a large chunk of buyers, including a compact luxury car which will rival the 3-Series and C-Class.
After launching the 2.2-litre diesel version of the XF and tasting success with it, Jaguar has now launched a 2.0-litre petrol engined variant of its cheapest car in India. The Jaguar XF 2.0-litre petrol is priced at Rs. 48.30 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai, pre-octroi). This 1999cc, 4-cylinder motor outputs 237 HP of power at 5500 RPM and 340 Nm of torque at 1750 RPM, coupled to a 8-speed automatic gearbox. The entry level petrol XF sprints from 0 to 100 km/hr in 7.9 seconds. Jaguar also offers more powerful petrol variants of the XF, including a fire-breathing 5.0-litre Supercharged V8 in the XF-R.
The Jaguar XF 2.0-litre petrol engine (Ford EcoBoost) gets similar equipment levels as the XF 2.2-litre diesel. Thus xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights, rear view camera, rain sensing wipers, dual zone climate control, 7-inch TFT screen with TV tuner, Bluetooth and navigation, cruise control, etc are all part of standard equipment. The XF is the only car in its segment which comes with a full-sized spare wheel. The British brand locally assembles the XF in India via the CKD route, at its facility near Pune.
