Jaguar Land Rover Opens Slovakia Manufacturing Plant

Jaguar Land Rover has opened its fifth manufacturing facility in Nitra, Slovakia.

The new facility employs over 1500 people from Slovakia

Jaguar Land Rover has built their fifth manufacturing plant in Nitra, Slovakia. The company has spent over Rs. 9400 crores to develop this facility.

The first facility of JLR outside U.K. was established in Pune after Tata Motors took over JLR. Later on, the company opened its second plant in China in 2014 followed by the third plant in Brazil in 2016. They opened the fourth plant in Austria last year. The new plant in Nitra is their further step towards global expansion.

The new facility employs over 1500 people, 98 percent are Slovak nationals and 30 percent are women. In November, the company is planning to recruit another 850 people to the facility. All the people from the manufacturing unit have taken part in a bespoke 12-week training programme in the company’s first overseas training academy.

The Nitra plant has been designed to manufacture 1.5 lakh vehicles annually. The first Land Rover Discovery rolled off the production line in September. JLR is manufacturing certain parts locally like seats and wheels of the vehicles to keep the costs low. The company is also looking forward to being a part of social and environmental projects.

Jaguar Land Rover will introduce a range of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles from 2020. At present, the company has Land Rover’s PHEV and Jaguar’s I-Pace in this segment. With such bold moves, one thing is clear that the company is focusing towards the cleaner and greener future.
