Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) are carving quite a niche for themselves recently and have created a global impact with its highest selling Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. It has recently opened its first wholly-owned production plant in Itatiaia, Brazil. The manufacturing facility sees an investment of R$750m and is the first UK-based automotive plant to be setup in Latin America. The new plant is a part of its global expansion process which has already seen them setting up a joint venture facility in China, earlier in 2014.
There has been a staggering rise in profit for JLR in Brazil, by 70% over the first five months of 2016. It currently endorses 35 dealers who scale the entire Brazil territory. They are striving to attain the LEED Gold sustainability accreditation and will be the first automotive plant in Brazil if they succeed in doing so. JLR has also sourced some of its major components from local makers such as Benteler and IAC, aiming to increase localisation. The plant also has the most advanced Emissions Conformity and Certification facility in South America.
The plant also houses the Education Business Partnership Centre which will take in about 12,000 children every year and impart key skills and knowledge to them. It works in coalescence with SENAI, the national training provider. They will provide courses on engineering, manufacturing and managerial education for children aged 5-18 years. On completion of the ‘Inspiring Tomorrow’s Workforce’ training programme, candidates are entitled to rewarding careers in the company. JLR have created a strong bond with the plant neighbourhood and have various programmes to inspire the next generation of automotive engineers.
JLR has been expanding its global dominance by investing close to 11 billion euros, employing more than 38,000 workers. It also plans to expand its engineering, design and manufacturing stations which are currently in England. There are six Education Business Partnership Centres in the UK to nurture school kids to be tomorrow’s engineers. JLR has also been named the ‘Best UK Employer’ by Bloomberg, giving credits to its increasing stature worldwide. They have also planned over 50 product actions for next year and will turn a lot more heads with their vehicles.
