After launching the D-Max Pickup truck and a new dealership in Mumbai earlier this month; Japanese utility vehicle manufacturer Isuzu opened an all-new dealership in Delhi, expanding its base in North India. The inauguration of the new dealership coincided with the launch of the D-Max range of pickup trucks for the North Indian market. The D-Max range comprises of the Single Cab and Space Cab options with three variants on offer.
The D-Max pickup truck is based on a heavy duty chassis with a flat deck to haul large loads and has been constructed using high-tensile-strength steel. The Single Cab model features a single two-seater cabin, while the Space Cab model features 1.5-feet of extra space at the back of the seats to store additional luggage. Isuzu is targeting the owner driven pickup truck segment, which is one of the fastest growing segments in the commercial vehicle space.
The D-Max range of pick-up trucks use a 2.5-litre, 4-cylinder, intercooled, turbocharged diesel engine that produces 134 HP of power at 3600 RPM and 294 Nm of torque at 1800-3200 RPM and is capable of carrying a payload of 1.2 tons. Features on the Space Cab variant include air-con and power windows offered as standard. The Japanese automaker is also in the process of setting up its manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh with an investment of Rs. 3000 crores that will commence operations by 2016.
Isuzu stated that the North Indian market is very important for the company and contributes to around 30 percent of the total pickup sales in the country. The company announced to open dealerships in Gurgaon, Jaipur, Noida, Ludhiana this year and Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Lucknow, Kanpur and Udaipur by next year to cater to the entire Northern region. At present Isuzu has presence across five states in the country with exclusive dealerships in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirupati, Visakhapatnam and Cochin.
