Isuzu Motors have inaugurated a new manufacturing plant in Andhra Pradesh and rolled out their first Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pickup truck from the new facility that has an initial production capacity of 50,000 units.
The Isuzu D-Max V-Cross pickup truck was showcased recently at the 2016 Auto Expo. Now, the Japanese automaker has rolled out its first Made-In-India Isuzu D-Max from the freshly inaugurated manufacturing plant in SriCity, Andhra Pradesh. The facility is spread across an area of 107 acres having an initial production capacity of 50,000 units that can be ramped up to 1,20,000 units if required in the future when they plan to commence exports to other countries.
Isuzu Motors already run production activities in Japan, Thailand and U.S.A currently and believe that India is a key part of their global growth strategy as this country is amongst the biggest automobile markets in the world. They have commenced the production of the D-Max pickup trucks with 70 percent of localisation, which will eventually increase in the near future. The new facility will follow Isuzu global manufacturing standards and have set a tie-up with 120 suppliers, including Tier-I and II suppliers.
Along with the new V-Cross, Isuzu will be manufacturing more variants including D-Max Crew Cab, D-Max Single Cab and D-Max Cab-Chassis. The Japanese commercial vehicle maker will cater to a wide range of audience with different requirements. Bookings for the new range of locally manufactured vehicles will commence very soon following the deliveries pan India. Isuzu Motors also plan to launch new products in India catering to other market segments.
Coming to the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, it is a huge pickup truck with modern styling bits and a very practical interior having decent features and styling for private car buyers. It comes with a 2.5-litre diesel engine that produces 134 BHP and 320 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It will of course come with a four-wheel drive layout to tackle rough terrains. We expect the D-Max V-Cross to come with a starting price of Rs. 15 lakhs (ex-showroom).
