If the Cygnus Alpha has taken your fancy, wait until you see what the Cygnus X looks like. Yamaha’s 125cc scooter, the Cygnus X shouts sporty from every corner and would be the perfect companion for scooter lovers. The Cygnus X 125 would be a gradual step forward from the Cygnus Alpha 110cc scooter for Yamaha in India. Launched in February internationally this year, the Yamaha Cygnus X has smooth and stylish looks with a compact chassis and a responsive 125cc engine on offer.
The Yamaha Cygnus X 125 is striking with the sharp lines and a funky design. The large front headlamp unit is very similar to the Honda Dio and surely gives a bold front facia to the scooter, while also providing better illumination. The scooter also gets integrated flashers at the front and rear, as well as an LED tail lamp unit that adds to the stylish design of the scooter. The dual seat on the Cygnus X is aimed for a comfortable ride, while the side profile is sporty with the semi-exposed engine and blackened rear coil springs and grab handle.
Completing the look are the 12-inch blacked out 5-spoke alloy wheels, while certain variants get grey coloured ones. The exhaust muffler has also been done up in black as well. The instrument cluster is digital with an analogue rev meter and certainly looks very premium. The Cygnus X is powered by a 125cc, fuel-injected, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, air-cooled engine producing 11 HP at 8500 RPM and 9.1 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM mated to an automatic gearbox. All that power comes to a stop with a 216 mm disc brake at the front and a 150 mm drum brake setup at the rear. The scooter has a wet weight of 120 kgs and the tank capacity is limited to 7.4 litres.
The Yamaha Cygnus X is available in white, silver and black colour options, while the XC125SR variant comes in a red paint scheme. The 2014 Cygnus X will be competing against the Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Swish and the Vespa VX and S models if launched in India. Being a Yamaha, the build quality is going to be exceptional compared to the competition; however, the scooter is most likely to be priced at a premium nearing the Vespa range. Yamaha plans to launch a 125cc scooter later this year, it be the Cygnus X.
