The Indian Scout Sixty has been long coming to our markets. With orders commencing sometime back, the Scout Sixty has been launched in India today, from a base price of Rs. 11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). The bike is currently the most affordable Indian motorcycle you can buy.
The entry-level cruiser segment just got a boost of retro bad assery. Indian Motorcycles has just launched the most affordable stallion in their stable – the Indian Scout Sixty. The model was first showcased at the 2015 EICMA show and has finally made it to Indian shores. Polaris Industries brought back the legendary brand in 2011, after it shut down operations in 1953.
The Scout Sixty is the smallest bike in Indian’s portfolio, and comes with an all new 999cc liquid-cooled V-twin motor. The engine puts down 78 HP of power and 88.8 Nm of torque through a 5-speed transmission. Add to this, the low weight of just 246 kgs (considering a cruiser), the bike should be light on its feet. As per Indian’s tradition, the rear wheels are primarily shaft driven rather than the common chain or belt drive. While this amounts to higher power loss through friction, the shaft drive is practically maintenance free, and does not suffer due to wheel alignment issues. The bike also gets ABS as standard for added safety.
The styling is nothing short of jaw dropping. The smooth retro curves, broad fenders and the long fuel tank give the bike much more character than others in the segment. It also gets a low seat height (635 mm) which will benefit shorter riders, and thus, widen the appeal. The Scout Sixty also comes with over 200 accessories which will help the consumers make their Scout, their own. The accessories range from seats, to foot peg re-locaters, to saddle bags. The bike however, comes with just a single seat as stock.
Indian Motorcycles will be focusing on volume sales this time around, rather than catering to a niche, and will be offered in three colour options – Thunder Black, Indian Motorcycle Red and Pearl White. The Indian Scout Sixty has been launched at a price of Rs. 11.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) which puts it right against the Harley-Davidson XL 1200 Forty-Eight.
