The Indian Roadmaster is the flagship offering from Indian Motorcycles and will soon go on sale in India. It has been quietly launched with the company’s website now showing the price of this luxury tourer.
Indian Motorcycles is on a roll and has launched yet another motorcycle in India, the Roadmaster. The retro 2-wheeler company which was revived by Polaris Industries earlier this decade, is introducing new models which will help them not only boost its historic presence the world-over but will also ensure that Harley-Davidson has some tough competition to fight. The American automaker has now silently introduced the Indian Roadmaster in India, priced from Rs. 37 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Deliveries are expected to commence by mid-2015.
The Indian Roadmaster is offered in three colours – red, ivory cream and black. The company claims it “reflects pure American Luxury” and the same name was used by the firm in the 1940s. Some highlights of this motorcycle include push-button engine start/stop, remote locking saddlebags, all LED lights, heated seats, heated grips, power windshield and adjustable floorboards to name a few. The bags can store 65.1-litres while the trunk will accommodate another 64.4 litres. Clearly this bike is for long distance touring in utmost comfort.
Powering the Indian Roadmaster is a 1.8-litre Thunder Stroke engine which produces 138.9 Nm of torque and our experience with the Chief Vintage makes us believe that this motor is more than up for the job for maintaining triple digit speeds effortlessly. Other than three Chief models, Indian also retails the Scout in India which is its entry-level offering, priced at Rs. 11.99 lakhs. The company has just one dealership in the country which is in New Delhi and two new outlets will be opened in the immediate future, one each in Mumbai and Bangalore.
