Indian Motorcycles To Enter India In 2014

Indian Motorcycles is an American based motorcycle manufacturer, ready to enter the Indian market in 2014. The Indian Motorcycles brand is now owned by Polaris Industries, which entered India in 2011. Indian Motorcycles is all set to launch its new motorcycle, the Indian Chief, which will be unveiled to the public in the first week of August this year at the famous Sturgis motorcycle festival. The Indian Chief will be featuring the new 1811cc egine, expected to produce 100 PS of power with over 150 Nm of torque.

The new 1811cc Thunderstroke 111 engine with a completely new design is formatted as an air-cooled 49-degree V-twin. The engine has a low compression ratio, which allows the air cooling to be effective. The engine also gets equipped with knock sensors so the software can cut the ignition if required. To enhance the motorcycle’s presence on the road, the engine has been treated with a large chromed head unit with the exhaust pipes angled down to give a classic appearance.

The 1811cc Thunderstroke engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission, which is a rigid unit construction. The clutch of the bike is oversized, which, according to the manufacturer, allows much lighter clutch effort via fewer friction plates. Polaris India confirms the introduction of the Indian Motorcycles brand along with the Victory brand, which is expected early next year. Polaris has to completely set up a new dealership network for its upcoming offerings and we expect the Indian Chief to be imported through the CBU route. The two brands will compete directly with Harley-Davidson.
