The India-spec Aprilia RS 150 is likely to be the same model which the company produces in China as the GPR 150.
When Aprilia showcased the RS 150 and Tuono 150 at the 2018 Auto Expo, people went gaga over their designs and the possibility of an India launch. Aprilia had stated that they will manufacture the bikes at the Piaggio facility in Ahmednagar when they launch them.
Recently, an Aprilia dealers’ meet happened in Goa where the India-spec RS 150 was showcased. The showcased bike looks quite different from the one that was shown at the Auto Expo. Apparently, Aprilia manufactures a 150cc bike called GPR 150 in China with a company called Zongshen and this India-spec bike looks similar to that.
Compared to the international spec bike, this one gets different graphics, conventional fairing and slightly redesigned cosmetics like the mirrors, switchgear, fuel tank and tail section. The pillion seat is also wider and longer.
Aprilia had earlier stated that the 150cc bikes will come with liquid-cooling and fuel injection while producing about 18 PS and 14 Nm. The GPR 150 also has the same power output. The India-spec bike gets a smaller front disc along with different tyres and these changes are likely made to cut some costs.
When launched, the Aprilia RS 150 will rival the likes of the Yamaha R15 V3. The bike is likely to be priced between Rs. 1.5-1.6 lakhs (ex-showroom).
