2017 MINI Countryman revealed in its second generation avatar, which gets drastic styling changes inside out and a new list of features with advanced tech.
The second generation MINI Countryman has finally revealed its face with a muscular new avatar. The new gen Countryman will make its public debut next month at the LA Auto Show. It has grown 200 mm in length and 30 mm in width while the wheelbase has also been increased by 75 mm.
The changes in proportions not only makes the MINI Countryman look bigger and brawnier but also carves out better space for the interiors. In terms of styling, the German automaker has transformed the soft and bulky appearance to a muscular and rugged looking car. It gets more squarer with an aggressive look to it.
On the inside, the theme of the cabin remains funky and retro but the details are new such as the materials, shapes and some new premium touches. Gone are the circular vents and a bulky looking dashboard. It now gets a layered dash with straight and well defined lines. The infotainment system has been updated along with colourful lighting inside.
The new MINI Countryman is based on the new UKL2 platform from the BMW Group, which also allows it to use a plug-in hybrid powertrain. It comes with a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine paired to an electric motor developing 221 HP and 385 Nm of combined output. Top speed only on the electric mode is claimed to be 125 km/hr and a range of 40 km.
Other engine options include 1.5-litre petrol, 2.0-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engines which will be available with 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic and 8-speed automatic transmission options. The MINI Countryman will also get the option of an all-wheel drive variant. It is expected to launch in India sometime next year.
