The graduates of Transportation Design – Car Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design (IED), situated in Turin, Italy have come up with some design proposals for compact MPV and SUV concepts in collaboration with Mahindra. The designs are thesis projects of their final semester of the three-year post diploma course. The students were asked to develop urban minivans and compact SUVs for the European market, keeping in mind the requirements of the Mahindra brand. The project went through various stages, including brand research and design research.
The committee shortlisted three concepts – the Bee by Alex Vasil Imnadze, the Core by Denald Jasini and Michal Sebastian Ptak and the Shroom by Aldo Maria Sica. The proposals were comprehensively built and included detailed interiors as well. The projects were also presented in a form of 3D video of the concept cars to showcase the styling details. The concepts were produced in a 1:4 scale model form, which is on display at the IED headquarters in Turin. The snazzy looking concepts are far away from what a production model should look like but Mahindra could derive some styling elements from the concepts.
The Mahindra Bee concept is a flashy compact SUV concept that reveals muscular styling and a funky yellow colour scheme. The front end hints a bit of the XUV500 face and it appears like a sedan on steroids when viewed from the side angle. The Mahindra Core concept hints about a SsangYong derived face. The wheels and the rear profile of the Core concept belong to the sci-fi world. The Mahindra Shroom concept is an urban minivan with typical proportions of a minivan that reminds you of the Volkswagen Camper van.
