Hyundai’s next generation i10 has been spotted testing in India near Chennai. In the international markets this new generation i10 will replace the current model but in India, it is expected that this vehicle will be slotted between the existing i10 and the premium hatchback i20, to open a new segment within Hyundai’s portfolio. This car is codenamed BA. The car was heavily camouflaged when it was spotted while doing the test runs, as it is the case with any new car on routine reliability tests.
Hyundai will launch the BA sometime this year in India. The car will be based on Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic’ design language and will most probably be pretty good looking like other fluidic Hyundai cars. The BA will be bigger than the i10 in length as well as width. The interior too is expected to be an update over the i10 with more space and good quality materials in keeping with the typical Hyundai interior quality. Just recently Hyundai was caught benchmarking the next gen i10 with the Volkswagen Up!.
The Hyundai BA will be powered by a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine and the existing 1.2-litre Kappa2 engine too will be on offer. But the best news is that the 2014 Hyundai i10 will get a brand new diesel engine. It will be a 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder turbo-diesel unit and quite possibly will result in good sales of this new car. But there is also a doubt that the new i10 slotted between the existing i10 and i20 will cannibalize sales of both its siblings. If Hyundai manage to sell the new i10 well, it’s a win-win anyways for getting a higher market share compromising slightly on sales of current cars.
