Hyundai will launch the ix25 in the later half of 2015 while the i20 Cross will be launched in April. The company is testing both the vehicles together.
Hyundai India is having a very successful run thanks to the Grand i10 and the Elite i20 both of which are selling in very good numbers. The Korean auto giant is looking to overtake Maruti Suzuki in the future and the company is expanding its product portfolio at a steady pace. Hyundai is now looking forward to launching the i20 Cross and the ix25 compact SUV in India. The i20 Cross is based on the Elite i20 and it will come with only cosmetic modifications to make it stand out as a crossover, while the ix25 will compete with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
The Hyundai i20 Cross will come with the same petrol and diesel engines that power the Elite i20. It will come with extra additions like body-cladding, DRLs, projector headlights, roof-rails and redesigned alloy wheels to differentiate it from the regular model. The interiors too might see a couple of changes. The Elite i20 costs between Rs. 5.23 – 7.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the i20 Cross will be marginally expensive compared to the Elite i20. It will compete with the Fiat Avventura, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. Such pseudo crossovers have constantly failed in India so we are quite interested to see how the i20 Cross fares.
The Hyundai ix25 will be launched during the festive season of 2015. Since it measures more than 4-metres in length, it might be pricier than the Ford EcoSport but knowing Hyundai, we know that the ix25 will get a lot of features and it will be pretty loaded. Hyundai might also launch an AWD version. Engine details are unknown but we feel that the ix25 will get the same 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines that are used to power the Verna. Both the above vehicles will come with 90% localisation. The ix25 will be priced between Rs. 7.5 – 11 lakhs (estimated) and may turn out to be another success story for Hyundai.
