Hyundai is betting big for its next generation i10, which is expected to be launched later this year. We have seen the upcoming i10 going under rigorous tests but this time, the next generation i10 has been spotted testing near the Arctic Circle. Hyundai with an aim of beating Volkswagen, has been spotted benchmarking the next generation Hyundai i10 against the Volkswagen Up!. The upcoming i10 will be a global car, with manufacturing taking place in India and Turkey.
The 2014 Hyundai i10 will get the traditional Fluidic design treatment on the exteriors as well as interiors with an all-new styling. It is expected that Hyundai will offer two new engines with the i10 including a powerful yet efficient 1-1.0-litre Kappa petrol engine and the much awaited 1.1-litre CRDi turbo-diesel engine. The existing 1.2-litre petrol motor will also get carried over to the new model with a powerful state of tune and improved fuel efficiency figures.
Expect the interiors and the equipment levels to improve vastly over the existing model. As usual, Hyundai will offer a healthy list of features with improved cabin space on the next generation i10 in order to take on the likes of the popular Volkswagen Up! Currently, Hyundai offers two petrol engines on the i10 including 1.1-litre iRDE2 and 1.2-litre Kappa2 engines with a starting price of Rs. 3.69 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). We can expect Hyundai to launch the next generation i10 in India later this year or early 2014.
Hyundai will continue to sell the old i10 in India, renaming the new model as something else. Both the new and old i10 will co-exist in the Indian market. The old i10 could be repositioned a segment lower. Volkswagen has already made it clear that they fear Hyundai the most. The German automaker sees threat from the Korean company and believes Hyundai can challenge them for the position of the world’s number one car manufacturer in the future.
