Hyundai Showcases HND14 Compact SUV Concept At 2016 Auto Expo [Live]

The HND14 Compact SUV when launched will perfectly bridge the gap between the i20 Active and the Creta and will be priced quite competitively

The design of the concept is very cool and different from current Hyundai designs

The compact SUV segment is a hot segment to be in currently and has caught the fancy of Indian car buyers. The Ford Ecosport and Mahindra TUV300 are currently the only sub 4-metre SUV’s you can buy in the market. Hyundai is currently expanding its SUV portfolio in India. The recently unveiled Hyundai Tucson bridges the gap between the Creta and Santa Fe. At the lower end of Hyundai’s SUV lineup, a compact SUV will be fitting well between the i20 Active and Creta.

Hyundai has showcased the concept version of the HND14 compact SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. It carries the name Carlino. The HND14 has distinct SUV styling with flared wheel arches, high ground clearance and an imposing muscular stance. It measures under 4-metres and can be priced quite competitively when launched. Currently Hyundai is focusing on the Tucson for 2016 and there is no current plan to launch the production version of this SUV, however Hyundai has not denied the possibility of a future launch.

The HND14 in its production guise is likely to be powered by the same engines seen on the Elite i20 and will be powered by both gasoline and diesel options. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is likely to produce the same 82 BHP and 115 NM torque while the 1.4-litre oilburner produces 89 BHP and 220 NM of torque. This compact SUV is likely to bring a lot of volumes for the Korean automaker.

2016 Hyundai HND14

– Still a concept and won’t be launched immediately
– Likely to share its engines with the i20
– Will rival the EcoSport and TUV300

The design showcases the design philosophy the Korean brand may adopt in the future
To be under 4 metres in length, it will slot in under the Creta
If Hyundai sticks to the concept design, the rear end will look very good
