Hyundai is planning to launch a premium SUV and an MPV in India soon.
Hyundai India currently has four SUVs in their portfolio belonging to different segments including Venue, Creta, Kona and Tucson. While they were present in the premium SUV segment with the Santa Fe a few years back, it didn’t work well for the company.
Now, Hyundai is studying the premium SUV segment again to take on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. They are reviewing the segment demand, customer response and preference to come up with a new product soon for India.
The company claims that SUVs contribute 33 percent to Hyundai’s total sales in India. This has increased from last year’s 25 percent contribution.
Hyundai is also coming up with an MPV, which is missing from the carmaker’s portfolio in India since the beginning. They’re looking for a high occupancy vehicle. It will compete directly with the Toyota Innova Crysta.
None of these products will make it to the Indian market at least this year. We can expect both the MPV and premium SUV to launch in the country by next year.
