Hyundai unveiled the new Mistra Sedan that is exclusive for the Chinese markets. The Mistra concept was showcased earlier this year in April at the Shanghai Motor Show and what you see is the production version of the sedan. The car will make its official debut at the upcoming Guangzhou Auto Show. A lot of the styling cues from the concept have been retained on the production version of the Mistra. While the car looks good, one can’t help draw comparisons with the Nissan Altima, or the Hyundai Azera pertaining to its striking resemblance with the two.
The Hyundai Mistra sedan is definitely a looker in the styling department with its toned down lines and more grown up stance compared to the more fluidic sedans from Hyundai. The restrained lines give it a mature appeal, while the all chrome upright grille gives it a bold facia. The rear will remind you of the Elantra with similar tail lights and a chrome border on the boot between the lights. The Mistra is 4710 mm in length, 1820 mm in width and 1470 mm in height with a long wheelbase of 2770 mm. That’s exactly equal to the current generation Volkswagen Passat. However, the Mistra will be placed in a segment between the Elantra and the Sonata.
On the interior front, the mature lines continue with a premium layout for the passengers. The dashboard has been given the premium feel with brushed aluminium accents and wooden trim. You also get an instrument cluster with a digital cluster read-out similar to the Genesis sedan. The seats are expected to be covered in leather with excellent rear room space, a must have for a Chinese sedan. The Mistra also features day time running lights on the front bumper and a sun roof.
The Chinese buyers will be choosing from a naturally aspirated 1.8-litre unit producing 143 HP of power and a 2.0-litre unit producing 155 HP of power. The Mistra will be competing with Honda’s similar offering, the Crider that sits between the Civic and the Accord in the Chinese market.
