Hyundai’s fully-electric SUV spied on Indian roads which is expected to launch in 2019.
Hyundai has already revealed its first fully-electric SUV Kona a couple of months ago. This SUV is expected to be launched in India by the first half of 2019. For the first time, the fully-electric Hyundai Kona has been spied on Indian roads.
Hyundai is selling the electric Kona in the international market in two engine options – a 39 kW battery pack which gives about 312 km range and a 64 kW battery which runs for 482 km on a single charge. We are expecting Hyundai to bring the 39 kW version, which makes 136 BHP and 395 Nm of peak torque. This EV does the 0-100 km/hr acceleration in 9.7 seconds with a top speed of 155 km/hr.
Compared to the ongoing Hyundai Kona, this images shows the lack of exhausts, a closed grille and 17-inch alloy wheels. The company says the battery pack has been placed in such a way that it won’t disturb the cabin space. But considering the fact that this is an EV, charging cable eats up the 373-litre boot to 332-litres.
The Hyundai Kona Electric will get a 7-inch heads-up infotainment touchscreen and front ventilated/heated seats along with an eight-way electrically adjustable seat. The Kona sold in the international market gets an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen with numerous safety features like a lane centring system, blind spot alert and AEB. We don’t know yet which of these features will Hyundai cut down in the India-spec model.
Hyundai is looking forward to assembling this EV locally using CKD units to lower the price which is expected around Rs. 25 lakhs (ex-showroom). Hyundai will be aiming to sell around 50-60 Kona EVs per month.
