The all-new Kona N has been revealed by Hyundai, today, as its first N model with an SUV body style.
Said to possess racetrack capability despite having the versatility of a utility vehicle, the Hyundai Kona N comes powered by a 2.0-litre T-GDI engine, making 280 HP and 392 Nm of torque, that comes mated to an 8-speed DCT.
The car can do the 0-100 km/hr sprint in 5.5 seconds using launch control and hit a top speed of 240 km/hr. With N Grin Shift (NGS) (a driving feature), the motor’s power output is enhanced to 290 PS.
Hyundai claims the transmission control unit has been calibrated to result in faster shifting and to also enable driving features such as N Power Shift (NPS) and N Track Sense Shift (NTS), apart from NGS.
The carmaker says it has enhanced the Kona N’s structural rigidity to reduce body roll. Moreover, the Hyundai Kona N comes equipped with an electronic limited slip differential (E-LSD) along with high-performance brakes and tyres.
Even the base trim of the KONA N comes with launch control, variable exhaust system and N Grin Control System that has 5 drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, N and Custom).
When it comes to the design, the Kona N is as sporty as N models get. It comes with a wide lower air intake, front splitter, body-colored fenders, side skirts, 19-inch forged wheels, double-wing roof spoiler with a triangular brake light, a rear bumper with diffuser element and dual exhaust tips.
For now, the Hyundai Kona N will be the only model to get the newly developed Sonic Blue exterior colour. But, Hyundai says it previews a possible SUV lineup expansion under the N brand.
Inside, the Hyundai KONA N is equipped with a 10-inch infotainment screen and digital cluster, a head-up display, customisable ‘N’ buttons, Performance Blue colour accents and N-specific steering wheel, pedals, gear lever and seats.
Despite it being a sporty model, Hyundai has equipped the Kona N with a suite of driver assistance features in addition to safety features as well.
At the unveil event of the Kona N, Hyundai also revealed the new brand claim – Never just drive – of the N brand which will be the guiding principle of the future electrification of Hyundai N.
