Hyundai Kona EV removed from the official Hyundai India website
Hyundai Kona electric launched in India back in 2019 with a starting price of Rs. 25.30 lakhs (ex-showroom). The price eventually got revised and the EV was available with a price tag of Rs. 23.84 lakhs (ex-showroom) until now.
The Kona electric is no more on sale in India now as the carmaker has silently removed the EV from the official website. The only electric car in their Indian portfolio currently is the Hyundai IONIQ 5, which has been accepted well in our country.
One of the reasons for the discontinuation of the Kona might be the age of the vehicle, it was being offered without any changes for the last 5 years. Another reason might be to make space in the EV portfolio for the the Hyundai Creta electric, which is currently under development and is expected to hit the showrooms by January 2025.
The Hyundai Kona is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 136 HP and 395 Nm. It gets a 39.2 kWh Lithium-ion battery. 0-100 km/hr acceleration timing comes up in a claimed 9.7 seconds. There are 3 driving modes on offer – Eco, Comfort and Sport. The vehicle has adjustable regenerative braking via paddle shifters.
The battery is capable to be charged to 80% capacity in about 57 mins using a 50 kW DC fast charger or in 6 hours 10 mins using a standard AC charger. It had a claimed driving range of 452 kms when fully charged.
Some of the features included 7.0-inch dashboard screen, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, HUD, automatic climate control, sunroof, heated ORVMs, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated electrically adjustable front seats and a reverse camera with parking sensors.
The upcoming Hyundai Creta electric will be heavily localised in India and is expected to come with a range of up to 500 km on full charge.
