The Hyundai ix25 will be available in petrol and diesel engine options carried over from the Verna and is likely to get a new nameplate for India.
You read it first on MotorBeam. Hyundai India is betting big on the compact SUV space that has witnessed a surging demand in the domestic market and has the i20 Active scheduled to launch next month while the ix25 compact SUV will see its launch in the second half of the year. To compete against the Renault Duster in the segment, the ix25 looks very promising and in a bid to capitalize on the market sentiment, Hyundai India will be launching a diesel automatic variant of the compact SUV.
Spotted by our reader Rishath Suresh in Chennai, the fully camouflaged Hyundai ix25 will be sharing its engines with the Verna sedan getting the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel units under the hood. Like the Verna, the ix25 will also be offered with the 4-speed automatic transmission paired to the diesel unit. The 6-speed from the Elantra would be preferable though. The move to offer only a diesel automatic comes from the poor demand for petrol automatic SUVs in the country. With a limited tank range and miserable fuel economy figures, petrol automatics fail to cover long distances without stopping for refills.
Hyundai will certainly get a head-start with the diesel automatic option complimenting the urban appeal and loaded tech wizardry that will be seen on the ix25. The compact SUV is expected to get few tweaks to the exteriors while the nameplate is also said to be different for the Indian model. Earlier this week, Hyundai confirmed that the ix25 will be limited to developing markets like Indian and China, and won’t be offered in developed markets including Europe and Australia.
