Currently, Hyundai has vehicles in almost all segments like hatchback (Grand i10), premium hatchback (i20), upcoming compact sedan (Grand i10 sedan), mid-size sedan (Verna), full-size sedan (Elantra), premium sedan (Sonata) and SUV (Santa FE) but what the Korean manufacturer lacks in its portfolio is a compact SUV. Now, Hyundai is testing a compact SUV called ix25 and the test mule has been spied in China. The ix25 will compete with the Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano and it will be a great option for buyers, bring priced at par with the Duster and Terrano.
From the outside, the Hyundai ix25 looks similar in size to its rivals and it will be around 4=metres in length. The claimed wheelbase is 2570 mm. The ix25 will share its platform with the i20 and the styling philosophy will be similar to other “fluidic” models from the automaker. In the spy pictures we cannot see the dashboard but what we can see is that the vehicle will have rear AC vents, armrests at the front and back with fabric seat covers. The back of the front seats are scooped in to generate more legroom. The black interiors look classy and the silver door handles provide appeal.
Coming to the mechanicals, it is likely that Hyundai will offer the ix25 with the 1.4-litre Kappa petrol engine and 1.4-litre CRDI diesel engine since these engines would get tax benefits. However, we are not ruling out the possibility of Hyundai offering a more powerful petrol engine like the 1.4-litre or 1.6-litre from the Verna as an option with the top variants. The engines will be mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 4-speed automatic transmission. Knowing Hyundai, we know that the ix25 will not fall short of any goodies and it will surely be feature-loaded.
