In an interesting development, Hyundai Ioniq 5 has been spied testing in India. The test mule has been partially camouflaged hinting some tweaks inside out exclusively for Indian conditions.

While Hyundai has plainly revealed that the EV will go on sale this year, we believe, the launch could take place during the upcoming festive season itself.

The Ioniq 5 is 1 of the unique offerings of Hyundai with many ground-breaking features. Unlike the recently-launched Kia EV6, the Ioniq will take the CKD route for an aggressive price tag. It will become the mainstream EV of the Hyundai Group in India.

While CBU attracts 60 percent import duty, Semi Knocked Down (SKD), and CKD attract just 30 percent and 15 percent respectively and, sources said, Hyundai has taken the CKD route for getting the lowest excise duty possible.

While internationally, the Ioniq 5 comes with the options of choosing between 2 battery packs and single or dual motor setup, in India, the EV will get only the base 58 kWh battery pack and the single 169 HP motor to keep costs low.

Internationally, with a 350 kW charger, Ioniq 5 can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes and by charging for 5 minutes users can get 100 km of range. The EV’s maximum range is rated at 481 km.

On the inside , the Ioniq 5 sports unique rear seats that can power-slide backwards and forwards up to 135 mm. The front seats can recline fully. The modular dashboard features two integrated displays – a 12.25-inch full-touch infotainment screen and a 12.25-inch digital cluster.
