Hyundai revealed the new generation Elantra at the 2015 Los Angeles Auto show with a redesigned look and new engines. It is expected to be launched in India by mid-2016.
The Hyundai Elantra has been a decent seller in the D-Segment sedan space for the Korean automaker. Hyundai is known for offering top notch features with contemporary styling and these aspects made the Elantra a desirable option in its segment. Hyundai recently revealed the new generation Elantra based on the next Fluidic Sculpture, which makes it look mature rather than swanky. Now, the all-new Elantra is about to hit the Indian shores this year and it will be offered with even more features and new equipment.
The 2017 Hyundai Elantra will be sold in four different options. Customers interested in petrol edition can opt for either the 1.6-litre GDi or the 2.0-litre MPi engine but the diesel variant only comes with a 1.6-litre VGT CRDi engine internationally. The diesel variant is mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission while the petrol version gets a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 6-speed automatic transmission option. Safety being the top priority, the vehicle comes with 53 percent advanced high steel, airbags and ABS as standard.
In a recent ad by Hyundai, Elantra is showcased as a tough machine which helps 3 astronauts escape meteor showers. The 2016 Elantra will be based on Fluidic 2.0 design, which gets more subtle and simple. The rear gets a two piece tail light and the front gets projector headlights with DRL’s and hexagonal grille. With an all new interior and all black design, the car does stand out. The Hyundai Elantra facelift is expected to be priced between the Rs. 15-19 lakh bracket. The Elantra’s competition would be the Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and Skoda Octavia.
