Hyundai has confirmed that they will launch a new compact SUV and an MPV in the Indian market in the near future. The compact SUV segment is the hot market right now in India and many new players are entering the field. MPVs like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga too are doing well and new ones like the Chevrolet Enjoy MPV are coming up. Hyundai has also said that they will concentrate on diesel technology in India and will launch new cars with diesel engines, as the market continues to favour diesel powered vehicles.
Hyundai will first launch the compact SUV in India, to take on the highly popular Renault Duster and upcoming cars like the Ford EcoSport. Hyundai’s main rival, Maruti Suzuki, too is planning to launch new products in the same category. The MPV from Hyundai will follow later. Hyundai will also launch a new small car in India which will slot between the i10 and the i20 and is expected to offer better performance than the i10. This will be available with a 1.1-litre 3-cylinder diesel engine. The vehicle in question is the next generation i10.
Hyundai has invested about Rs. 1500 crores in India for an all new diesel-gasoline flexible plant with an annual capacity of 3,00,000 units. This plant can make petrol as well as diesel engines which will enable Hyundai to change priorities if there is change in Government policies for diesel prices leading to change in demand of diesel cars. Hyundai has also confirmed that no new car below their sub-compact hatchback, the Eon, will be launched as their target market is the modern premium category of cars.
