The new generation Elite i20 has been the most successful product for Hyundai in India and has clocked over 1 lakh sales within just 7 months of launch.
Hyundai India has been on a roll with back to back hits in the recent years and the new generation Elite i20 just catapulted the South Korean automaker to super volumes. The Elite i20 took the country by storm with over 1,00,000 units sold within just seven months making it the automaker’s best-selling product ever. With the demand outpacing supply, Hyundai feels that long waiting periods on the premium hatchback risks losing customers and the automaker has planned to increase production of the new i20 in a bid to meet the ever growing demand.
Produced at Hyundai India’s facility near Chennai, the plant produces 10,000 units of the Elite i20 every month, which is neck-to-neck with the monthly sales figure of the vehicle. The plant is producing the premium hatchback at full capacity and the increase in production will see a few more thousand units being churned out every month to meet the growing demand. As of 16th March, the automaker had received 4,68,184 enquiries along with 1,03,960 bookings for the Elite i20 and the hatchback has an average waiting period of two and half months.
Certainly, a money spinner for the manufacturer, Hyundai is making sure to capitalise on the demand at all costs and rightly so is ensuring that production is increased at the earliest. With the recently launched i20 Active crossover also added to the Elite i20 stable, the ramp up in production capacity will turn out to be a necessity for the company. For the previous months, the Elite i20 has been averaging between 9500-10,500 units every month and the number is only expected to grow further in the following months as well with no immediate threat in sight.
