The Hyundai i20 has scored 3 stars for adult occupancy protection and 2 stars for child occupancy protection.
The Made-in-India Hyundai Elite i20 has been tested by Global NCAP and it has secured a rating of 3-stars. The vehicle which was tested was manufactured in India but was meant to be sold in the African market.
For adult occupancy protection, it scored a rating of 3 stars whereas for child occupancy protection it secured 2 stars. In the frontal impact test at 64 km/hr, the structure of the vehicle was deemed unstable and so was the footwell area. For adult occupants, the protection levels ranged from marginal to good.
The child seats used in this test were the ones recommended by Hyundai but the i20 doesn’t get ISOFIX mounts. The report has stated that the structure of the Indian-made i20 is different from the European i20.
The Hyundai i20 scored 10.15 points out of 17 in the adult occupancy protection test and 18.16 out of 49 in the child occupancy protection test. The tested i20 was loaded with dual front airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners and a seatbelt reminder for the driver. The Made-in-India i20 misses out on side airbags, side curtain airbags and ESC, all of which are standard on the European model.
