The Hyundai i20 Cross gets a tweaked suspension, raised ground clearance and an updated feature list and will be priced above the Elite i20.
With a launch set for March, Hyundai is gearing up to launch its first of the two compact utility vehicles planned for the year to compete in the new found hatchback-crossover sub-segment that everyone has been talking about. Spotted by our reader Soundara Pandiyan, two test mules of the upcoming i20 Cross reveal the impressive ground clearance as well as the new alloy wheels that will be exclusively available on the hatchback turned crossover.
Based on the new generation Hyundai Elite i20, the i20 Cross is a rugged version aimed to give an SUV-like stance with the comforts of owning a hatchback. Compared to the hatchback, the crossover will come with an upgraded suspension set-up upgraded to take on rough roads effortlessly while the feature list will also see updates to differentiate the model more effectively. Seen in the spy shots, the i20 Cross gets projector headlamps, daytime running lights, roof rails and 16-inch alloys as standard on the vehicle.
In addition, the ruggedness will be further displayed with black body cladding on the front and rear bumpers as well as the sides. The Hyundai i20 Cross will carry over all the colours from the Elite i20 with the Midas gold and Red passion spotted on the test mules. In terms of performance, the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 1.4-litre CRDE diesel engines will continue to be on offer paired to 5-speed and 6-speed manual transmissions respectively. A clearer idea of the launch date is expected to come in the following days once the Verna facelift is introduced on the 16th of this month.
