The Hyundai Elite i20 and the Harley-Davidson Street 750 took up the top honours after being judged on several parameters including price, economy, styling, comfort, performance, practicality among others.
With 2014 coming to a close, the season of awards has commenced appreciating the best and brightest in the automotive sector received during the past year. One of the most coveted awards for auto manufacturers, the 2015 edition of the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) and Indian Motorcycle of the Year (IMOTY) awards concluded earlier this year with the Hyundai Elite i20 and the Harley-Davidson Street 750 taking up top honours. Out of the several cars and motorcycles launched throughout the year, certain vehicles managed to get nominated for the coveted title and were put forth on a further round of assessment by the jury members.
After a session of completing the voting process, the jury selected the top three contenders for the 10th edition of ICOTY which boiled down to the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai i20 and Honda City, while the 8th edition of IMOTY saw the KTM RC 390, Suzuki Gixxer and Harley-Davidson Street 750 make it to the top three. The nominated cars were then judged across several parameters including price, practicality, performance, fuel economy, comfort, styling, technical innovation, safety, value for money and suitability for Indian riding conditions. For Hyundai, this was its second consecutive victory having won the 2014 ICOTY for the Grand i10.
It comes as no surprise that the Hyundai Elite i20 managed to win the coveted title. Not only did the i20 turn out to be a massive success for Hyundai India, it is also the company’s most sold vehicle this year garnering well over 56,000 bookings. Moreover, the Elite i20 packs in overwhelming features and is quite a good looking vehicle on roads today. The Harley Street 750 on the other hand is the American giant’s most affordable offering in the country. A long awaited product, the Street 750 was found to retain the Harley styling in parts, while offering more practical and convenient riding capabilities with an impressive engine on offer.
