2027 Hyundai Creta expected to come with new strong hybrid powertrain
Hyundai has begun laying the groundwork for the third-generation Creta, set to launch in India in 2027. The new iteration of the popular midsize SUV, codenamed SX3, will be manufactured at the company’s facility in Tamil Nadu. While official specifications remain under wraps, the upcoming model is expected to retain the current engine lineup with the possibility of a hybrid variant entering the mix.
Powertrain
The next-gen Creta is likely to continue offering the existing powertrain options, including a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 115 HP, a 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol unit generating 160 HP and a 1.5-litre diesel engine with 116 HP. These will likely be paired with manual and automatic transmission choices. However, Hyundai is also exploring hybrid technology, potentially making the Creta its first hybrid offering in the Indian market. The introduction of a hybrid powertrain could follow the launch of Hyundai’s Ni1i SUV, which is expected to feature a 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor.
Design and Features
While concrete details on the next-gen Creta’s design remain scarce, Hyundai is expected to introduce significant styling updates, ensuring the model aligns with its global SUV lineup. Interior upgrades will likely focus on a more premium experience, with an extended feature list and advanced safety equipment. The company aims to maintain the Creta’s competitive edge by integrating the latest technology and comfort features found in its larger stablemates.
Creta Electric
In addition to the all-new internal combustion engine Creta, Hyundai is also planning a mid-cycle update for the Creta Electric in 2027. Having debuted at the Auto Expo 2025, the Creta EV will be three years into its lifecycle by the time the facelift arrives.
Although specifics about the update remain undisclosed, Hyundai is expected to enhance the electric SUV’s technology package, improve driving range through battery advancements and introduce subtle design refinements to keep it fresh in an increasingly competitive market.
Hyundai’s Vision for the Future
The next generation Creta and its electric counterpart signal Hyundai’s commitment to evolving its SUV lineup while keeping pace with emerging trends in the automotive industry. With an increased focus on electrification and hybrid technology, Hyundai aims to balance performance, efficiency and sustainability in the Indian market. More details about the next-gen Creta are expected to emerge closer to its launch, offering a clearer picture of what the future holds for one of the country’s most popular SUVs.
