The Hyundai ix25 will be launched in India next year and will get 90 percent localization keeping the prices competitive.
Hyundai India has been riding high this year with two back to back successes of the Xcent compact sedan and the Elite i20, while the latter also bagged the Indian Car of the Year award. With the raging success witnessed this year, the South Korean automaker plans to replicate the same in 2015 and has confirmed the launch of the ix25 in India next year, its newest global SUV below the Santa Fe. Launched in China this October, the ix25 competes against the Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Ford EcoSport and the likes in the segment.
In a recent interview, Hyundai India stated that the company plans to bring its newest global SUV next year along with a new design form of the Elite i20 (Elite i20 Crossover). The company has already commenced testing the model in India against its rivals Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster and was spotted earlier by our readers. In addition, Hyundai also stated that the new compact SUV will get 90 percent localization like most of its mass market products, thereby keeping the prices extremely competitive which will surprise its rivals.
A lot of parts sharing is expected to be seen on the new Hyundai ix25. Measuring 4270 mm in length, the ix25 will not be drastically different from the China spec version in terms of aesthetics, while the features and powertrain will be more India centric. Several features from the Elite i20 will be carried over on the ix25, while the 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol as well as diesel engine options will come from the Verna. It is still not clear if Hyundai will introduce the AWD version in India at the time of launch. The ix25 is expected to be priced between Rs. 8-12 lakhs (ex-showroom).
