The Hyundai Carlino is expected to hit Indian shores by 2019, while the Santro replacement is slated for a 2018 launch.
Korean carmaker Hyundai has been successful in generating a lot of hype from its Carlino concept which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. After launching the 2018 Verna, Hyundai is expected to launch the Carlino in India in the first half of 2019. The Santro, which was phased out a couple of years back, is set to be relaunched in 2018.
The production-spec Carlino will be based on Hyundai’s Fluidic 2.0 design language and will be position below the Creta. It will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 118 HP of power and a 1.4-litre diesel engine that currently does duty on the smaller i20 Active.
The Hyundai Santro was a very popular hatchback which was phased out to free up the assembly line for production of the Grand i10. The i10 took its place and now the next generation Santro, which is due for a launch in 2018, will replace the i10. The original Santro was known for its tallboy body style but the newer generation will get rid of it. The company is designing the new car in Korea and it will be wider, more spacious and practical than the previous version. The New Santro will lock horns with the Maruti WagonR, Datsun Go and Tata Tiago.
